About Hazel’s Balanced Bowls 

Welcome, here is our story behind Hazel’s Balanced Bowls Inc. Founded by Jenika Semple, our practice is built on a foundation of academic training and profound personal experience. Jenika earned her Canine Specialist credentials in 2020 and her Veterinary Assistant certification in 2024 via the Stratford Career Institute, then completing her Certified Pet Nutritional Coach in June 2026. This professional path was inspired by her six-year-old Labrador and Coonhound mix, Hazel. Together they've shared a diverse journey from suburban settings to exploring all over Canada.

 

The inception of Hazel’s Balanced Bowls Inc. followed a pivotal health crisis Hazel endured in October 2025. Suffering from acute neurological and gastrointestinal complications, then severe liver failure. Following a six-day hospitalization involving intensive care and enteral feeding, clinical forecasts remained pessimistic as Hazel was not responding to the treatments. Faced with the heartbreaking decision, Jenika elected to stop the treatments and bring Hazel home to ensure her final days were spent in comfort.

 

Driven by a refusal to surrender, Jenika immersed herself in peer-reviewed veterinary literature and holistic clinical studies. Despite Hazel being discharged on eight different pharmaceutical medications with a terminal prognosis, Jenika implemented a radical lifestyle shift. From a commercial kibble diet to a whole-food nutritional strategy. This regimen was to target the liver enzymes though diet and botanical supplements like milk thistle to facilitate hepatic recovery. The outcome was exceptional.

 

Hazel showed immediate signs of improvement, regaining her appetite and energy within days. Under diligent supervision, her reliance on synthetic treatments was gradually phased out. Despite all odds, within sixty days,  tests confirmed a total physiological recovery.

 

Today, Hazel’s is still very healthy and is looking at a full normal life. This experience solidified our mission: to empower pet owners with evidence-based strategies and nutritional guidance.
